FT Permanent position or 1 year Fixed Term Contract

The beautiful Coromandel is calling!

We are seeking applicants for a full-time position in a rural emergency medicine department. This is a rural hospital serving a catchment population of 45,000 in the Coromandel Peninsula and Hauraki Plains, with the population swelling over the summer holidays.

The service comprises of a 15-bed emergency department seeing 18,000 patients per year, and 24/7 laboratory and radiology services, including CT. The inpatient unit has 40 beds split between general medicine, low acuity surgery and rehabilitation. Those patients requiring specialist care are transferred to Waikato hospital. Virtual health continues to develop with ward rounds, outpatients, and stroke thrombolysis all supported by telehealth.

The emergency department is staffed by a mix of doctors - rural specialists, emergency medical officers and emergency specialists. All patients presenting acutely to the hospital are treated or admitted as required. The service provides procedural sedation for both adults and children when necessary. The roster is full shift, including night duty, with no on-call. There is local clinical support from a physician on-call 24/7 and a surgeon on-call for part of the week. Clinical support is available for all specialities via our base hospital at Waikato.
