NZDr chooses to support
The Variety Have a Go Scholarships programme

Every time a Doctor works a locum via NZDr, we contribute a percentage of our commission to the Variety Childrens Charity.

This does not affect payment to the Doctor or the charges to the DHB.

The programme gives disadvantaged kids the chance to participate in extra-curricular activities of their choice – activities that their caregivers would otherwise be unable to afford. These experiences are a critical step in helping children to build confidence, learn new skills and develop lasting friendships.

Variety Have a Go Scholarships range from $250 to $500 per year, with the funds awarded used to support:

  • Activity fees & registration costs (e.g. gymnastics, netball, soccer, swimming lessons)
  • Sports uniforms, clothing and equipment (e.g. rugby boots, netball uniform)
  • Music lessons and equipment
  • Drama/dance tuition
  • Extra tuition (e.g. English, Maths, computer programming)
  • Career trips (e.g. leadership courses)
  • Cultural activities
  • Personal development activities (e.g. school camp, outward bound)

Each year Variety seeks applications from schools and communities across the country to identify children who would benefit greatly from a Have a Go Scholarship. They don’t have to be sporting superstars or academic whizz kids – just Kiwi kids who are missing out through no fault of their own.

This can make a lasting difference to some of these children, giving them the opportunity not only to enjoy their childhood, but to contribute positively to NZ society as they grow. Find out more about The Variety Childrens Charity and click here to refer a colleague or register with NZDr.
