Featured District Health Board: Taranaki DHB

NZDr is currently recruiting for a Consultant Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist to come and work at Taranaki DHB.
Based on the West Coast of the North Island, the Lonely Planet named Taranaki one of the world's best regions to visit in 2017.
Charles Hunt from the Taranaki District Health Board would say it is one of the world's best regions to live and here is why..

Q: How long have you lived in Taranaki?

I was Born in Taranaki, lived in Auckland for 17 years, returned to live in Taranaki in 1983

Q: What are the top 3 things that you love about living in Taranaki?

1.       Regional living close to the outdoors – mountain and the sea

2.       Has everything I need without the large city population and traffic – schools, shops, sports, recreation and leisure

3.       Whanau / family – this is where I was born and my turangawaewae – the place where I can stand and call my home.

Q: What, if any, do you view as downsides?

I personally do not have any downsides though it could be - not enough traffic, too many good restaurants to choose from, so much to do outside of work it makes choosing what to do hard, a 3.5 minute traffic jam and too much sunshine in the summer.

Q: Why would you recommend that a Doctor moving to New Zealand relocates to Taranaki?

All of the above. We have many people come for a temporary job for 6-12 months, and many are still here years later. The HoD Emergency Department came for 12 months and has been here 13 years.

Schools are great for families, there is a lot of sport and culture for them to join, we have a great musical theatre / operatics and dance groups, we have great events such as  WOMAD, festival of the lights – heaps of outdoors, water, mountain, tramping, skiing (a little skifield), fishing, surfing, yachting, kayaking to name a few!

Does this sound like the lifestyle for you?
