Medical Oncologist

Home > Vacancies > Medical Oncologist

We’re seeking a Medical Oncologist to join the progressive Cancer and Blood Service at Te Tai Tokerau, Northland, primarily based at the Jim Carney Cancer Treatment Centre at Whangārei Hospital.

This is an exciting time to join the service as increased government funding for new cancer medicines is supporting a major expansion of oncology treatment capacity and enabling more care to be delivered closer to where patients and whānau live.

You’ll provide specialist assessment, diagnosis and treatment within a multidisciplinary team, with opportunities to contribute to the growing service across Northland, including clinics at Bay of Islands Hospital in Kawakawa and other rural centres. The role offers the opportunity to be part of a service focused on improving access to cancer care, achieving equitable outcomes and strengthening services across both urban and rural communities.

Whangārei offers a warmer climate and relaxed coastal lifestyle, with beautiful beaches, outdoor activities, good schools and more affordable housing, while still being just two hours by road or a short flight from Auckland. It’s a great option for someone looking to combine meaningful specialist oncology work with a fantastic Northland lifestyle.

Base salary range: NZ$198,386 – NZ$282,645 (on call and job size on top)

  • 6 weeks annual leave
  • Generous CME leave and funding (currently up to NZ$18,000 per annum under the collective agreement)
  • Relocation assistance: flights, accommodation, vehicle, freight
  • Professional indemnity support arrangements (varies by employer)

Our support includes:

  • Guidance on Medical Council registration pathways and what they mean for your future career options.
  • Access to opportunities across New Zealand, tailored to your career and lifestyle goals.
  • Expert immigration advice and visa support for you and your family.
